Regarding the 3D community challenge, “I think it's just very fun for artists to participate in, and it's just really satisfying to watch everyone's unique, creative voice from all around the world and see it packed together in a very succinct montage with custom music, and the big all renders montage as hours long where you get to see everyone's creative voice shine through.” said Clinton Jones, highlighting the event's global impact.

Notably, XPPen and Clinton Jones share a longstanding alliance rooted in a mutual dedication to fostering creativity. “We are thrilled to participate in global creative events like the 3D community challenge, as XPPen is always committed to building an art and cultural exchange platform for creators to communicate their artistic voices ”, said Amy Yuan, Marketing Director at XPPen.

How the champion player crafts emotion in 3D renders
The latest, ninth edition of the world 3D community challenge garnered an impressive 3,733 entries from 122 diverse nations, a testament to the exceptional artistry of global 3D creators. Among them, Aiman Samat from Malaysia emerged victorious with his piece "Mother." In recognition of his achievement, he was awarded an professional drawing display by XPPen, equipping him to produce even more awe-inspiring works on his digital art journey. XPPen seized the moment to extend its congratulations to Aiman Samat through a brief dialogue.

XPPen: Could you introduce yourself and your creative career? What style of work do you most enjoy creating?

Aiman Samat: My name is Aiman Samat and I'm from Malaysia - I started shooting my own shorts when I was 14-15 back in 2009 and have learned VFX at the same time to implement them in my own films. I learned that I enjoy shooting horror/action most which carries on to my full 3D work.

Now that I am working full time I have not written and directed anything in a while, and 3D is a good substitute to keep supplementing my creative output - so I would say cinematic/realistic 3D renders are most enjoyable to create for me.

XPPen: Could you provide us with more details about your award-winning project? How did you conceptualize it, and what story or message were you aiming to convey?

Aiman Samat: Kinetic Rush is the 9th render challenge hosted by Pwnisher, and my submission is called "Mother". The rule for this challenge was not to touch the camera and work around the provided running cycle.

Upon seeing the template, the idea of a mother rescuing her daughter came right to me because I could not think of a better motivation for a character to be moving from point A to B. It gives a lot of opportunity for chaos as well which is in line with my style.

I don't think I necessarily was thinking of a specific message to convey but as a writer I tend to lean towards thinking about the character first and having to root for whatever they are trying to achieve so even if it's just a 5 second render, the character's motivation has to be clear to make it be easier to be emotionally invested in what you are watching.

XPPen: Do you use a graphics tablet in your daily workflow? What role do digital tools play in your artwork? How do digital tools influence the way you create your ideas?

Aiman Samat: I've only ever used tablets in college for Photoshop/Illustrator/ZBrush and it was great. I never thought of using one since but now I own the XPPen Artist 24 Pro, it has been such an amazing experience.

I am also a tech nerd so any new digital tools that I get to play with naturally makes me excited to create artwork with it. It's also important ergonomic wise as a lot of artists suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome or posture problems from working for hours and hours holding a mouse and pressing on keyboards.

Obviously, artists make the best art when there are least amount of resistance from the tools they work on - so it is always never a mistake to invest in digital tools, whether it's upgrading your PC, getting a tablet, more ergonomic mouse and keyboard. Experimenting with new tools you are not familiar with can also open you up for ideas you never thought would be possible - That being said, I am excited to see what I come up with with my new tools!
